Can Sweating Too Little Result in Health Problems
When we are sporting a pretty pair of sweat rings under the arms we aren’t really thinking about how important sweating is to the body. But the reality is that it is a vital bodily function.
It’s most important role is to help regulate our body temperature – if our body starts to get warm, we perspire as a way of cooling down.
Sweating is something that has evolved in humans. When our ancestors were on the move in the warmth of day, they wore very little clothing. This meant that the layer of moisture on their skin cooled the body when they moved around.
Now that we are more modest, we are also not able to use the air to evaporate this perspiration as easily.
Instead it is retained as moisture in areas like the armpits where bacteria can form and create body odors.
Like most things, we are all different in the amount we perspire and what triggers it to start.
Some of us sweat little, even when exercising, while others will only have to look at a treadmill and sweat beads will begin to form
Many people see excessive perspiration as a problem, and it is to a point. But the problem is more in embarrassment at constantly sweating, as opposed to any risks that threaten your health.
There may also be some levels of skin irritation as a result of constant moisture in areas like the armpits or groin.
The one thing that needs to be considered is whether or not the sweating is a symptom of some far more serious medical condition.
On the other hand, if you don’t sweat enough you are at risk of overheating which can cause far more damage to your body than sweating too much.
There are generally three types of causes related to an inhibition of sweating – either the sweat glands are malfunctioning, there is some skin condition causing the problem or medication is causing this problem as a side effect.
Seeking some advice from a medical professional is always a good idea if you think there is some problem with how your body is (or is not) sweating.
They will be able to offer you some advice as to what is causing the problem and what needs to be done to correct it.
