Most of us are interested in living as long as we can, and at the same time increasing the quality of our lives. There are lots of methods that claim to help prolong life, but the most reliable way of increasing your lifespan is without a doubt, healthy living. Here our a few suggestions on how to have a healthier life.
Sleep! The benefits of proper sleep have often been researched, studied and reported. We are all different, but our need for adequate sleep is basically the same. Despite many people thinking they can get along with less sleep than others, this lack of sleep adds up and is linked to many health issues and their consequences. The average person needs about eight hours of sleep per night, although the timing and quality of such sleep also plays an important role.
Exercise! Keeping your body in shape is a sure way to increase your overall health, stay in shape, and consequentially reduce health risks associated to being overweight. An hour of daily exercise is recommended, but if your schedule doesn’t allow it, try to fit in at least four hours per week.
Eat right! To a certain extent, you are what you eat! Choosing what you eat carefully and avoiding fatty foods will help prevent health risks. Maintaining a balanced diet is vital to a healthy lifestyle. Plan healthy meals and avoid unnecessary snacking in between.
Relax! Stress is a very common word these days! The pace of our lives is constantly increasing and it is highly important that we find ways to reduce the stress levels that are built up daily. Find what works for you, whether it’s a hot bath, a night out with friends, or a walk down a deserted beach; getting rid of stress is crucial to your health.
Love! Believe it or not, love is linked to health. Those who love are less prone to several diseases and health problems. Whether you love a companion, your kids, grandkids, friends or a pet, it truly is the thought that counts when it comes to feelings of love.
Don’t smoke and try to avoid hanging around smokers. The negative consequences of cigarettes are well known be most of us. If you are a smoker, do your best to quit, and avoid hanging around friends who smoke.
Alcohol! Although a small amount of wine daily can be beneficial to your health, too much alcohol can have the opposite effect and drastic consequences. Moderation is the key.
Sunscreen! The sun is directly linked to aging, wearing protective clothing and adequate sunscreen when outdoors is extremely important. A glamorous tan may look good for a while, but the lack of one can help you live a lot longer.
Water! Drinking enough water is vital to staying healthy and to keep your body in running order. The quality of the water you drink is also very important.
Be happy! Happiness is vital to your health. A negative or bitter outlook on life is linked to several diseases. By thinking happy thoughts and wishing others well, we can help keep a positive mindset and be cheerful despite the adversities that constantly threaten to bring us down.

Potential Health Problems in Dogs
Much like people, dogs can experience a wide array of health problems. Unfortunately, when dogs have a health problem they’re not able to tell us what’s wrong. This inability to communicate what hurts or doesn’t feel right means our dogs often suffer silently until their pain reaches the point where it becomes obvious and requires immediate treatment. While it’s important to recognize your dog’s symptoms, your dog’s inability to communicate makes it essential to also learn how to prevent dog health problems from occurring at all. Many potential health problems in dogs mirror those suffered by people.
Allergies: Like people, dogs can have several types of allergies. The most common, however, is an allergy to fleas, which can potentially lead to skin infections and/or hot spots. Make sure you give your dog a safe but effective flea medication every month, and have him examined at least annually by a vet to ensure he stays healthy. If your dog’s skin problems lead to hot spots or ear infections, the real problem might be a more severe food allergy which your vet will need to deal with immediately.
Infections: Dogs can also potentially suffer many types of infections, including ear, skin, eye and tooth infections. Ear infections are very common and typically caused by bacteria or a foreign body inside the ear. Although infections are fairly common, they’re probably also the easiest to prevent of all potential health problems in dogs. Your dog’s ears should be checked frequently for the presence of excess moisture, dirt, swelling or red spots. Make sure you also clean his ears and eyes, brush him regularly, and brush his teeth to avoid any possible buildup of bacteria.
Diabetes: Dogs can also develop diabetes, for some of the same reasons as people. Feeding your dog a diet with too many fatty, sugary or excessively rich foods could lead to pancreatic issues that might eventually cause diabetes. Feeding your dog a strict diet limited to commercial dog foods and only minimal table scraps can help avoid canine diabetes. If your dog does happen to develop it, you’ll need to take him to the vet on a regular basis, and he might need daily shots of insulin which you’ll need to learn how to administer.
Joint issues such as arthritis and dysplasia: Some dogs are prone to developing problems in their joints. Many purebred dogs are particularly susceptible, but it’s possible for any dog to develop arthritis or a joint dysplasia. Give your dog daily minerals and vitamins to help forestall joint issues, and ask your vet to check your dog’s joints at least once a year for the presence of any signs of degeneration.
Obesity: This is one of the most frequently seen dog health problems – and also one of the deadliest. Canine obesity is typically caused by overeating coupled with inadequate exercise. This health condition does not directly cause death, but is associated with higher rates of heart disease, liver disease, skin problems, and cancerous and benign tumors, all of which can be dangerous if not dealt with immediately. It can be prevented as well as treated by feeding a careful diet and ensuring your dog gets sufficient exercise.
Many potential health problems can be prevented by making sure your dog eats properly, gets enough exercise, and is always clean and well-groomed. You’ll still need to take him to the vet at least once a year to be checked for any potential health issues. Early detection and treatment is always best.

It is a natural state for our colon to be clear of build up – there is no physiological reason why any of the foods we eat, once digested do not get expelled easily and naturally – However, this is not the case for large number of people.
The typical “western” diet consists of many hard to digest elements, and ones that as we evolved we are not equipped to deal with effectively over long periods.
Diets that are high in fat, contain a lot of red meat or processed meats, include a large proportion of processed foods, and contain little dietary fiber are the norm among large bodies (pardon the pun again!!) of the population.
Once a build up occurs in the colon, the body will normally be able to eliminate the waste matter, however, if this build up is allowed to progress, often due to poor diet and inactivity, it can lead to a position where the colon becomes narrower, which can cause constipation. It can also reduce the ability for the colon to absorb nutrients from the food.
This sort of environment is the ideal breeding ground for parasites, “unfriendly” bacteria and can encourage yeast overgrowth.

First off, you need to know what you have to avoid in your diet to improve colon health. Don’t be put off by the list, it may seem that this is a list of all the foods you enjoy, but we will come to the foods that are fine to include in a candida diet soon.
Foods to restrict/ avoid include:
o Black tea and coffee
o Pasteurized milk
o Sugar laden cookies, potato chips and other junk foods
o Sodas
o Alcohol
o Foods from fast food joints
o Fatty (fried) foods
o Avoid smoking (not a food but important to restrict or eliminate)
This list can seem harsh, especially if you view coffee as the crutch that can get you through the day, and cookies and potato chips gives us great company when where watching TV. While it is recommended to avoid them, having a little bit once in a while will not adversely effect the diet if the rest of the diet is maintained. Just have enough discipline to limit yourself.
Here is an example of a healthy colon cleansing diet:
For breakfast, you can have fresh fruits and fruit juices, in fact, an apple can work better in giving a boost of energy to a person than coffee, as the inevitable “caffeine low” is avoided. You may also have prunes, low salt low fat cottage cheese, oatmeal cereal, natural sheep and goat yoghurt, and some boiled or poached eggs from time to time.
For lunch options include fresh vegetable salad with no dressing, brown rice, steamed vegetables, cottage cheese pumpernickel sandwich, vegetable soup, or sprouted beans.
For dinner, you may have more salad, grilled or steamed fish, cottage cheese or a small omelette.
For snacks, dried fruits would do fine.

Pressurized Cabin
Planes are also pressurized but as a plane increases in altitude, the pressure in the cabin does decrease slightly. This change in pressure can cause health problems such as earaches and hemorrhaging, chest pains, severe intestinal gas and even toothache. To try to limit these problems, wear loose fitting clothes, do not fly immediately after having surgery and try to avoid flying if you have a cold or the flu. Also try to have food and drink that is bland and does not contain any carbonation (no fizzy drinks).
Pregnancy & Flying
Pregnant women should also be wary of when they fly. Flying exposes individuals to levels of radiation higher than that experienced on land. Flying can also place other stresses on a developing babies. Mothers planning to fly should always seek advice on whether flying will be safe for the week of pregnancy they are in.
Fear Of Flying
Some people also hold great fears of flying. Although the statistics show flying is extremely safe, people still often have a morbid fear of getting up in the air. You should never sleep on a plane as this increases your chances of developing a blood clot.
Jet Lag
Jet lag is the change of your ‘body clock’ that occurs when you fly across different time zones. Jet lag occurs when your body gets out of sync with the date and time. The symptoms of jet lag include fatigue, exhaustion, irritability, disorientation, head aches and general tiredness. Preventing or minimizing jet lag involves some of the points above. Don’t drink alcohol and be sure to drink plenty of water during the flight. You can also try to adjust your body clock before you leave. If you work out what the time difference will be when you arrive, you can start adjusting your body clock before you leave for your trip. Maybe start waking up earlier by an hour each day, and going to bed an hour earlier before you leave. Obviously this will depend on which way the time will alter depending on if you travel east or west. You can also plan your travel times so you arrive in the daytime, as this will give you time to adjust. Arriving at night time often makes it hard for you to go straight to sleep on arrival.

If the dog continues to have diarrhea for more than twenty-four hours, medical treatment is required. The first thing you can try is a bland diet of rice and potato instead of their regular food. This may help, but in case it does not, you may need to have a veterinarian determine the cause.
Treating the Health Problem in Large Dogs
Most vets recommend withholding food for twenty-four hours to give the dog’s system time to recuperate. After this time, smaller quantities of food can resume to test the dogs ability to digest the food properly. After a few days of limited food consumption, the dog can be put back on a normal diet. If the diarrhea is caused by an infection, diarrhea may last for several days until the medication has time to work through the bloodstream.
This health problem in large dogs causes a lack of energy and sometimes incontinence, as accidents happen due to the inability to move outdoors fast enough. By restricting food, the dog will eventually stop the diarrhea and give the intestines time to heal. If the diarrhea results from infection or parasite, the problem will persist until proper medical is received. This condition affects all sizes and breeds of dogs no matter what you do to prevent it. .

10 Ways to Solve Health Problems at the Office
Being healthy while working doesn’t have to be difficult. Many people, however, let themselves go, ignoring their health completely, and then wonder why they have problems. Ergonomic concepts can help heal and prevent many office health issues.
1. Get an ergonomic chair. Since you are going to spend most of your time sitting in your chair, it really is important. An ergonomic chair will allow you to make the necessary adjustments so you will be sitting and using your arms and hands in a way that is healthier. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your arms should be at a 90-degree angle when typing. If you are straining or stretching to reach the computer, you are putting stress and strain on the back and shoulder muscles. Nothing can take the place of a chair that is ergonomically correct.
2. Take a break every 20-30 minutes by getting off your chair and moving by stretching and perhaps doing some simple wrist and hand exercises. There are websites that you can find online that can install a simple timer on your computer that will help you remember to take your breaks. Some websites give you ideas of simple exercises to do during that time.
3. Check the room temperature. No one can be an effective worker if it’s unbearably hot or cold in your office. Everyone seems to have a different preference, so this can be a touchy problem. If it’s too hot, take a fan or talk to your supervisor about adjusting the temperature to make it cooler. Also, try to wear light clothing with layers that can be removed in case it gets too hot. If it’s too cold, take a space heater and bring extra clothing to slip on if you get chilled. Drinking appropriately hot or cold beverages can also help one to adjust his or her body temperature to be more comfortable.
4. Take a plant to work. Plants bring color and nature into an office and also make it look more pleasant. Plants can also help clean the air in your office. They add humidity and oxygen to the indoor environment and help purify buildings that tend to be stuffy and polluted. Health problems can often go undiagnosed in an office that is too air-tight. Some plants that are especially helpful in the office are ivy, chrysanthemum, peace lilies, and various forms of dracaena.
5. Don’t forget to get regular physical, eye and dental examinations. This is the least you can do to take care of yourself. Don’t try to be a super human. No one else is going to take care of your body, so you need to. It may also be worth your while to visit a chiropractor regularly until your spine is in correct alignment.
6. You can adjust your environment during the day by taking a walk outside or into another part of the building for 10-15 minutes. Go at a steady, upbeat pace and you will find renewed energy by getting the blood and lymphatic system flowing again. Speak to people you see, engage in some light conversation and break the monotony. It’s amazing how much better you will feel when you get back to work.
7. Do what needs to be done. Rather than stressing out every day, focus on what has to be done today, not tomorrow, next week or next month. You are only given 24 hours each day. Make a list for what needs to be done today and work towards those goals. Mark things off your list and get the important things accomplished first. You can then look at your completed items at the end of the day and have a feeling of satisfaction that you have put in a good day’s work.
8. Find ways to relax. This can be different for everyone. Walking is another great way to relax. Others relax by taking a bubble bath, getting a massage or reading. Some people find it restful to spend time with friends and family, doing fun things that are enjoyable. Keeping a journal is another great technique that many use to relax and vent their frustrations. Take the time to de-stress when you find yourself getting uptight.
9. Provide rest for your eyes. This can be done by having a window or artwork nearby so that the eyes can get relief from the computer screen. Since people don’t blink often enough while working at the computer, having a diversion for the eyes will help keep them healthy.
10. Make technology work for you. Don’t make things too complicated in the office with all of the technology available today. Instead, use programs that will allow interfaces to communicate with one another. This will help you avoid problems such as reading the same emails twice on two computers or printing something on someone else’s computer. If the technology is not set up correctly, it will only cause confusion. However, if it is set up right, technology can be a wonderful, useful tool.
