Everyone loves to go flying away on tropical holidays. But do you know how to keep you and your family healthy and safe whilst up in the air? Below is a health guide to flying, some health tips and some important information.

Air Quality

When you fly, the air is recirculated for use for the whole flight. This results in poorly oxygenated air that can be high in carbon dioxide and germs. The symptoms that you can experience from breathing in the aircrafts stale air include headaches, colds, flu’s, dry skin and sore eyes. Those with respiratory problems and cardiovascular disease are at an increased risk of developing some of the above problems. Drinking water helps your body minimize some of the above threats. Pressurized Cabin

Planes are also pressurized but as a plane increases in altitude, the pressure in the cabin does decrease slightly. This change in pressure can cause health problems such as earaches and hemorrhaging, chest pains, severe intestinal gas and even toothache. To try to limit these problems, wear loose fitting clothes, do not fly immediately after having surgery and try to avoid flying if you have a cold or the flu. Also try to have food and drink that is bland and does not contain any carbonation (no fizzy drinks).

Pregnant women should also be wary of when they fly. Flying exposes individuals to levels of radiation higher than that experienced on land. Likewise, compression stockings are of little use unless they are custom designed and fitted. The best way to minimize the chances of dvt is to walk around the plane at least once every 2 hours. You should never sleep on a plane as this increases your chances of developing a blood clot.

Jet Lag

Jet lag is the change of your ‘body clock’ that occurs when you fly across different time zones. Jet lag occurs when your body gets out of sync with the date and time. The symptoms of jet lag include fatigue, exhaustion, irritability, disorientation, head aches and general tiredness. Preventing or minimizing jet lag involves some of the points above. Don’t drink alcohol and be sure to drink plenty of water during the flight. You can also try to adjust your body clock before you leave. If you work out what the time difference will be when you arrive, you can start adjusting your body clock before you leave for your trip. Maybe start waking up earlier by an hour each day, and going to bed an hour earlier before you leave. Obviously this will depend on which way the time will alter depending on if you travel east or west. You can also plan your travel times so you arrive in the daytime, as this will give you time to adjust. Arriving at night time often makes it hard for you to go straight to sleep on arrival.

Treating the Health Problem in Large Dogs

Most vets recommend withholding food for twenty-four hours to give the dog’s system time to recuperate. After this time, smaller quantities of food can resume to test the dogs ability to digest the food properly. After a few days of limited food consumption, the dog can be put back on a normal diet. If the diarrhea is caused by an infection, diarrhea may last for several days until the medication has time to work through the bloodstream.

This health problem in large dogs causes a lack of energy and sometimes incontinence, as accidents happen due to the inability to move outdoors fast enough. By restricting food, the dog will eventually stop the diarrhea and give the intestines time to heal. If the diarrhea results from infection or parasite, the problem will persist until proper medical is received. 10 Ways to Solve Health Problems at the Office



Being healthy while working doesn’t have to be difficult. Many people, however, let themselves go, ignoring their health completely, and then wonder why they have problems. Ergonomic concepts can help heal and prevent many office health issues.

1. Get an ergonomic chair. Since you are going to spend most of your time sitting in your chair, it really is important. An ergonomic chair will allow you to make the necessary adjustments so you will be sitting and using your arms and hands in a way that is healthier. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your arms should be at a 90-degree angle when typing. If you are straining or stretching to reach the computer, you are putting stress and strain on the back and shoulder muscles. Nothing can take the place of a chair that is ergonomically correct.

2. Take a break every 20-30 minutes by getting off your chair and moving by stretching and perhaps doing some simple wrist and hand exercises. There are websites that you can find online that can install a simple timer on your computer that will help you remember to take your breaks. Some websites give you ideas of simple exercises to do during that time.

3. Check the room temperature. No one can be an effective worker if it’s unbearably hot or cold in your office. Everyone seems to have a different preference, so this can be a touchy problem. If it’s too hot, take a fan or talk to your supervisor about adjusting the temperature to make it cooler. Also, try to wear light clothing with layers that can be removed in case it gets too hot. If it’s too cold, take a space heater and bring extra clothing to slip on if you get chilled. Drinking appropriately hot or cold beverages can also help one to adjust his or her body temperature to be more comfortable.

4. Take a plant to work. Plants bring color and nature into an office and also make it look more pleasant. Plants can also help clean the air in your office. They add humidity and oxygen to the indoor environment and help purify buildings that tend to be stuffy and polluted. Health problems can often go undiagnosed in an office that is too air-tight. Some plants that are especially helpful in the office are ivy, chrysanthemum, peace lilies, and various forms of dracaena.

5. Don’t forget to get regular physical, eye and dental examinations. This is the least you can do to take care of yourself. Don’t try to be a super human. No one else is going to take care of your body, so you need to. It may also be worth your while to visit a chiropractor regularly until your spine is in correct alignment.

6. You can adjust your environment during the day by taking a walk outside or into another part of the building for 10-15 minutes. Go at a steady, upbeat pace and you will find renewed energy by getting the blood and lymphatic system flowing again. Speak to people you see, engage in some light conversation and break the monotony. It’s amazing how much better you will feel when you get back to work.

7. Do what needs to be done. Rather than stressing out every day, focus on what has to be done today, not tomorrow, next week or next month. You are only given 24 hours each day. Make a list for what needs to be done today and work towards those goals. Mark things off your list and get the important things accomplished first. You can then look at your completed items at the end of the day and have a feeling of satisfaction that you have put in a good day’s work.

8. Find ways to relax. This can be different for everyone. Walking is another great way to relax. Others relax by taking a bubble bath, getting a massage or reading. Some people find it restful to spend time with friends and family, doing fun things that are enjoyable. Keeping a journal is another great technique that many use to relax and vent their frustrations. Take the time to de-stress when you find yourself getting uptight.

9. Provide rest for your eyes. This can be done by having a window or artwork nearby so that the eyes can get relief from the computer screen. Since people don’t blink often enough while working at the computer, having a diversion for the eyes will help keep them healthy.

10. Make technology work for you. Don’t make things too complicated in the office with all of the technology available today. Instead, use programs that will allow interfaces to communicate with one another. This will help you avoid problems such as reading the same emails twice on two computers or printing something on someone else’s computer. If the technology is not set up correctly, it will only cause confusion. However, if it is set up right, technology can be a wonderful, useful tool.

Do not use anything that contains bleach or ammonia, as this will smell similar to the ammonia in the dog’s urine. The dog will then return to the same spot to relieve itself again as it still has an odour. If a dog is bored they will drink a lot of water, when they drink a lot they require to relieve themselves a lot too. You need to observe what they are drinking & if it seems to be a larger quantity than normal look for other symptoms.

Common New Born Puppy Health Problems and Diseases



Most newborn puppies are very weak and are vulnerable to health problems. Prevention is always better than cure as recommended; to prevent the opportunity of infections or other health problems, basic to intermediate knowledge about caring for your new born puppy is very important.

Here are some of the few common puppy health problems and diseases that a weak puppy might be susceptible to.

Hypothermia:

Hypothermia is one of the major problems. A tiny new born puppy has difficulty regulating it’s body temperature as it’s thermoregulatory system may not be fully developed yet. One common solution is to keep a new born puppy in a moderate heated environment of 85-90F degrees for the first two to three weeks.

How can you do that? Simple, use a heated dog lamp or warming lamp. Also, it is a good practice to use warm bottles (not hot as they might be dangerous) and a puppy warming blanket. Use hypoallergenic cotton blankets as an alternative because they retain some body heat.

Parvovirus:

This is a common diseases for a young puppy and a dog. As a dog owner, ensure that your puppy is adequately protected against the deadly Parvovirus disease. Parvovirus is a contagious disease that attacks the lining of the dog or puppy’s digestive system. It is usually spread through feces of another infected dog. Parvo can also be carried on kennels, crates and accessories of another dog.

Symptoms include lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, weariness and putrid smelling dog stool. These symptoms have also been linked to high fever which could lead to congestive heart failure.

Make sure that your puppies are vaccinated under a proper program and a health time table. Veterinarians recommend that infected puppies should not be taken to the dog park or even the yard where they can interact with other dogs, until the proper vaccination and injections are administered.

Colostrum:

This is an anti-body that can be given to your new born puppy at approximately 24 hours after birth.

How? Simple, by feeding your puppy the full-bodied first milk of it’s mother. This step if available, is critical to your puppy’s health and health problems prevention.

If you are concerned about your new born puppy’ slower absorption rate; it is quite common, visit your local vet for a consultation about their Colustum’s absorption rate. Your vet will usually do a blood test to check your puppy’s anti-body absorption rate and if needed, your vet will then proceed to inject some serum from it’s mother to speed up the process.
